LPC Supervision for Texas LPC Associates

About Your LPC Supervisor:

Kirsti Reese is an approved LPC Supervisor by the Texas State Board of Professional Counselors. Rooted in authenticity, my supervision style is very similar to my therapy style - tailored to the individual and grounded in interpersonal neurobiology. I specialize in working with complex and developmental trauma across the lifespan through an interpersonal neurobiology lens. Most of my therapy background is centered in knowledge about relational neuroscience, attachment science, systems work, and integrating the body into treatment. In supervision, this means we talk a lot about how to organize treatment to maximize healing using what we know about neuroscience, attachment, and the brain after complex trauma.

I may be a particularly good fit for you as a supervisor if:

  • You think the brain and neuroscience is really important in therapy!
  • You want to understand attachment and trauma better in your work.
  • You see your clients as more than diagnoses.
  • You plan to work with specific populations including trauma and chronic stress, perinatal/maternal mental health, and/or children and teens.
  • You are interested in specific modalities including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Play Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy -- or seeking support as you learn which types of therapy would be the best fit for you as you start deciding where to dive deeper while you develop your practice.
  • You seek an inclusive and safe learning environment where all identities and abilities are welcome. Supervision is an important place to start building a foundation of anti-racisit, LGTBQIA+ affirming, and cultural humble practices.

About Your LPC Supervision:

Texas LPC Board requires a minimum of 4 hours of supervision per month. I offer in-person or virtual supervision options, usually scheduled before 5:00 pm. Supervision fees are $400 paid monthly for a guaranteed 4 hours of direct supervision (minimum). This covers direct supervision hours as well as check-ins and crisis management support throughout the month. Additional individual supervision may be requested for a fee of $100 per one-hour session. Prior to the beginning of supervision, we will decide together what date(s) the fee will be paid. Supervision for licensure may not be “double counted” towards supervision for the Registered Play Therapist designation or EMDR Consultation.

While you can receive up to 50% of your supervision hours through a group setting, I primarily offer individual supervision as I find it creates a more comfortable learning environment and offers more safety when navigating challenges. If group supervision is important to you, I am happy to offer group supervision times to other supervisees and see if we can coordinate schedules to make it happen, just let me know.

Many associates ask about seeing clients under our practice Thrive Therapy Houston. Unfortunately, Thrive Therapy Houston cannot serve as a primary internship site at this time. However, I highly prioritize making appropriate referrals to current associates.

Next Steps:

If you think we could be a good fit and would like to explore working together, please email me at [email protected]. Potential supervisees will need to include a letter or indication of interest including what type of site you would like to work at, what type of clients you plan to work with, and what would be most helpful in a potential supervisory relationship. Please also send your resumé/CV and 3 references. From there, we will set up an (free) initial meeting to get to know each other and see if we feel like a good fit together!

About Your RPT Supervisor:

Kirsti Reese is an approved RPT Supervisor by the Association of Play Therapy. Rooted in authenticity, my supervision style is very similar to my therapy style - tailored to the individual and grounded in attachment and interpersonal neurobiology. I specialize in supervision for play therapy that works with complex and developmental trauma within the family system through an interpersonal neurobiology lens. My theoretical approach in play therapy is grounded in child-centered play therapy with significant training in cognitive-behavioral, theraplay, adlerian, and filial play therapy models. Most of my therapy background is centered in knowledge about relational neuroscience, attachment science, systems work, and integrating the body into treatment. In supervision, this means we talk a lot about how to organize treatment to maximize healing using what we know about neuroscience, attachment, family systems, and the brain after complex trauma.

About Your RPT Supervision:

The Association of Play Therapy (APT) requires 35 hours of supervision and 350 hours of direct play therapy experience (through three phases of training) over a minimum of 2 years (max of 7 years). APT recommends one play therapy supervision hour for every ten play therapy experience hours. APT requires a minimum of 5 play therapy observation sessions.

There are in-person or virtual supervision options for RPT supervision. RPT supervision fees are $150 per session. Supervision for licensure may not be “double counted” towards supervision for EMDR Certification.

Many RPT supervisees ask about seeing clients under our practice Thrive Therapy Houston. Unfortunately, Thrive Therapy Houston cannot serve as a primary site for hours at this time. However, I highly prioritize making appropriate referrals to current RPT supervisees.
